Common Mistakes
Forgetting to move the decimal when finding 10%
Why it's wrong: 10% means dividing by 10, which moves the decimal point one place to the left.
Correct: For 10% of 45 dollars: move decimal left to get 4.50 dollars, not 45 dollars.
Calculating tip on the total after tax instead of the pre-tax amount
Why it's wrong: Traditionally, tips are calculated on the pre-tax bill. Tipping on the after-tax amount is acceptable but results in a slightly higher tip.
